The Benefits Of A Mailing List

The benefits of a mailing list are absolutely essential to the overall success of any internet marketer and webmaster. Revenue figures prominently in those benefits, but there are a couple of others that are just as important as the money you receive.

First of all, What is A Mailing List?

A mailing list is a very simple concept: a collection of e-mail addresses to which advertising matter or promotions can be sent to, with the consent of the owner. In other words, it’s the e-mail address of the people who follow your blog/website updates, or the e-mail addresses that have subscribed to your RSS feed.

How Can I Build A Mailing List?

The actual process of building a list and collecting e-mail addresses will not be covered in this article. However, it is a free resource that you can download when you subscribe for my newsletter. You can also get another amazing listbuilding resource here.

What Tools Do I Need For A Mailing List?

At the base of every good mailing list, there is a good autoresponder. That’s all you need. An autoresponder keeps track of your subscriptions and sends out pre-written e-mails whatever time you tell it to.

The most popular autoresponder, and the one that I personally use is Aweber. It has a fair membership price, at $19/month, but has plenty of functionalities that will more than compensate for the sum by saving you time. You can sign up for Aweber here (hyperlink to your Aweber affiliate link).

As we already covered, revenue is NOT the only benefit of a mailing list. But, it is definitely a major part. Statistics show that on average, you can expect $1 per month from each address on your list. Think about it. If you promote a $500 product of yours to your mailing list, you would just need a 0.2% conversion rate to average $1 per month per subscriber, while the average conversion rate across the web is 0.5%. If you promote the right products to the right people in the right manner, you’re looking at some pretty good revenue capability.

Apart from revenue, you also build trust and traffic. Business that have large follows have unlimited potential for growth, as well as the trust that accompanies each and every subscription. When you have that trust and customer satisfaction, you can also expect higher conversion rates for each of your products/affiliate products, because you’ll have a hefty list of recurring customers.

Furthermore, blogs and websites can e-mail their list every time they publish a new post, resulting in higher levels of traffic (which means higher monetization if you use AdSense’s CPM program).

Building a list is absolutely vital to the success of any online business. However, responsibility also accompanies a list; the responsibility you have to your subscribers to provide quality content to them, again and again and again. Establish a large network of subscribers in your list, and you’ve already well on your way to Internet marketing success.
